Try a container herb garden
Plant several different types of herbs in a planter for a fragrant, and useful container. Most herbs are Mediterranean plants that love the heat, so they need a sunny spot.
Fight weeds naturally
By encouraging a thick, healthy stand of grass your lawn will outcompete weeds naturally. Overseed your lawn this spring with Topdresser and a good quality blend of grass seed to fill in bare spots and thicken the turf.
Prepare your garden for winter
Cut back perennials to a few inches high (leave your ornamental grasses, though, to enjoy throughout the winter)
Roses should be cut to a foot high, and composted manure mounded 6-8" over the base of each plant.
Don't forget about winterizing your pond. Ask us how.
Fall Lawn Tips
Keep raking those leaves off your lawn and garden. If left, they will mat together to create a wet blanket that can smother all life beneath.
Lower the height of your cutting blade for the final mowing of your lawn.
The grass roots are still growing! Turf experts recommend a late fall application of fertilizer to prepare grass for a long winter and provide a boost in early spring.
Deadhead annuals for more blooms
Take a few minutes each week to pinch or snip the spent flowers from your annuals. By snapping the dead heads off geraniums, lantana, verbena, and other annuals, the plants will reward you with more blooms.
